So, I've been doing a little thinking, as have many GM's around the league. Why have we not seen more free agent signings? Well, for the most part, a lot of teams do have a few big stars under their belts. Some have elected not to buy big $$$ players out and live with what they got. I think there are only a few number of spots in this new model on each team for your Sakic's and Naslund's. However there may be more sakic's and naslunds in the league than spots... I think this is in particular the case for role players. Players who could've gotten 4-6M in the old system, that may have to now play for 2-4M. I think this is a good thing too. Increasing the potential for player mobility in this new CBA and adding in this salary cap does potentially encourage more player competitiveness. ie. if you want to retain your level of salary, you can't play mercenary anymore, you have to compete ahead of time and get into a top paying spot... otherwise, you could wind up with a smaller piece of the pie.

Increased player competitiveness + new rule changes =======> even better game? Could be... could be...
